I installed it and found the vocals sounded very muffled like the high end sound wasn’t working. I tried several times changing the speaker settings to no avail. I assumed it had the latest update as the latest one is from 2019 but no they didn’t. I spent 3 hours one 2 different computers trying to format a usb drive to something the receiver would recognize to no avail. Apparently the usb drive needs to be formatted to FAT with a dos partition according to the web wehen looking into the error code. What a complete waste of my time

I don’t really know much about surroundsound. But when we bought a new TV, it was clear that we had to upgrade our 25+ year old receiver, as it was not working with any of the new TVs. We have the older version of this at our other house and it had been a fantastic piece of equipment so we decided to upgrade to the new one for our new house. It was super easy to set up with our new TV and I really love that you can actually connect it to the HDMI arc and set it up using the TV display. Connecting it to our hardwired Bose surround sound speakers was incredibly easy, and the audio quality that this transmits is perfect. We have it connected via optical cable and it works great!
The only issue that we have with this is, the TV does not sync with the remote. So, we have to keep both remotes out to operate tv/volume. I think it’s more the TVs problem than the receiver but I do wish that they would work together like our old system did.

Nice unit, plenty of features…. But that’s where the problem comes in. I think they pack too much in for the price and maybe skimp on parts. I didn’t like the setup with tv it requires, I just wanted to plug n play to test out speakers. Sounds great on fm tuned, but the Bluetooth processor must be cheap. My Bluetooth volumes were about half as loud as the tuner. I mainly returned for that reason and stepped up to the Sony an1000… great choice!

I replaced my old onkyo as it last forever, this one is more easy to connect and runs much colder. It locks in controls on subwoofer. But I can’t beat the price. Real happy with the purchase ,hope it last along time like the other Onkyo.
