When we saw Sony was coming out with the new ULT Tower 10 we had to give it a tryout.
      Unboxing:
This speaker arrived in a huge shipping box “I mean huge” and tips the shipping scale at about 75lbs. Inside the speaker was cradled in a Styrofoam frame with a large plastic bag covering the speaker itself and very well protected. There’s a power cord, wireless microphone and a very welcome optical audio cable along with a quick setup guide and manual. The speaker itself feels very well made and sturdy, there’s a reason it weighs as much as it does and feels like a quality product.
      Setting up:
Setting this up is about as simple as it gets, just plug it into a wall outlet “no battery in this one”, turn it on and pair with what you want to listen through “Phone, TV, Computer” we pared it with everything to test out connectivity and we weren’t disappointed. I also used the optical cable to hook to the TV since they were close and that works perfectly.
      Use:
This is one very large and interesting speaker; the sound quality is better than anything we have heard in years. The light show is interesting and fun when listening to music, way too distracting when watching a movie.
When setting up you’ll want to install two apps “we use Android” the Sony Music Center and Fiestable apps. The Music Center give you control over the speaker and has a full equalizer with presets, or you can adjust and save your own.
The built in light show is also pretty wild and has 5 different presets “strobe being the wildest “you don’t want to be light sensitive with this setting”, you can also disable the lighting effects though, but we did notice that no matter what the big ULT button on top cannot be adjusted off so it has a little light show all its own, at least it faces up.
Now sound quality is way better than we expected “and a lot louder too”, the speaker being as large as it is pumps out a very impressive amount of volume. I was trying out just how loud it is playing some good old metal music and with the speaker set to ½ volume, our sound meter at 20’ away was registering 91db, around 110db at 1’, that’s loud, and the room we have it in is 16’ wide by 20’ long with high ceilings and it was able to produce that volume at 20’ is simply amazing and it could go a lot louder, just getting painful at that point going up and it was already rattling stuff on the dining table. And at that volume the music was absolutely clear, no distortion at all, with the bass being enough to where you could feel it on your insides. Using the ULT button is basically using two different equalizer presets one with deeper bass the other shallower, I found tweaking the equalizer to our liking is what works best for the room size we have, it’s great you get this option.
Next we played a movie and it completely blows away our Sony soundbar for volume “naturally” and clarity, movies never sounded this good and completely filled the room with sound. The way the speaker is made you won’t need two of them as this is a single full stereo setup and I was impressed the way it separates sound and sends it to the correct area; it sounds as good as a multi speaker setup “at least for us it does”.
The included wireless microphone is so handy “the speaker even has a swivel out mic holder”, if you happen to have someone in the house that likes karaoke, being wireless they can switch it on and start in from anywhere “may be a bad thing too 😊”. But it is clear, and we tried it at around 30’ away and it didn’t loose signal at all. Going to be a noisy karaoke night here now as my wife does like singing along.
      Conclusion:
This is one huge speaker weighing in at 63lbs and almost 4’ high, it has a large footprint that you’ll have to consider when purchasing. There are built in wheels that help immensely when moving around “although they don’t work that good on deep carpet”, so you’ll want some help moving this around.
There are plenty of input options, from a standard audio jack, optical in, USB “which also charges”, a full-sized audio jack for another microphone or guitar “yep can be used as a guitar amp”, and Bluetooth, so you have plenty of ways to hook up your devices. I even tried a little handheld MP3 device using the headphone jack and that worked great. We have it paired with multiple Bluetooth devices and you’ll have to be careful if you have “like us” paired to the computer to play music because if you are jamming not paying attention an email alert will make you jump out of your chair.
The touch panel on top is very sensitive and easy to use, and you can select sources and adjust lighting and volume easily but it’s much easier to control everything with the app on your phone or tablet, and since there’s no wireless remote “which would be nice if available” you have to use your phone to control volume remotely unless you want to get up and change settings at the speaker. You can adjust volume to from other devices too “like your computer” but if your TV is like our the optical out does not have a volume control and up to the device you are hooked to so you must use your phone for volume control “why a separate remote would be nice” or get up and change at the speaker.
Our community clubhouse has a few gatherings where they could use a nice speaker system to use “they have an old Bluetooth boom box they use” so we’ll be taking this over there for those as it’s plenty powerful to fill our gathering room.
If you are wanting a huge, powerful, very loud with outstanding sound quality speaker then you should be putting the new Sony ULT Tower 10 on top of your shopping list.

This speaker is amazing! It is very loud with clean sound i was not looking for a microphone but this speaker came with a high quality microphone that is a nice bonus

    3. Alberto

Excellent for parties, it’s the best thing I’ve had at home, one of the best speakers.

    4. Mizshutterbug

Received this HUGE Sony ULT Tower 10 speaker and was so excited to give it a try. I have placed it in my music room to proof/listen to the vocal recordings I make and place online plus when I want to just listen to some loud music. Be aware that this speaker weighs over 60 pounds so you will need help moving it about if you’re a smaller person like myself, even though it does offer a good top handle and 2 wheels on the base.
Upon opening the box I found the speaker, an optical cable for TV speaker use, 2 batteries for the included wireless microphone, a power cord which has to be used as this is way too powerful to be a portable battery speaker and some paperwork.
It’s a Bluetooth 5.2, has 2 low frequency modes when pressing the ULT button on top and it connected seamlessly to my computer or phone’s Bluetooth. I downloaded the Sony Music app which gives you a large amount of options for set up including a 7 band equalizer. The app also has a Fiestable section that has DJ CONTROL, ILLUMINATED, KARAOKE, MOTION CONTROL, PARTY PLAYLIST, PARTY LIGHT and VOICE CONTROL. You can also control the speaker with your voice by giving commands to Fiestable. There is a recognized list included in the app.
On top you’ll find touch capacitive links that offer Bluetooth, Audio In, Optical In (TV SOUND CONTROL), USB, a Play/Pause, Light and Volume setting. Also there’s a pitch or Key Control and Echo for the wireless microphone near the top. To the right of that you’ll find a soft rubberized flap that lifts up and inside are the Guitar, Volume and a 1/4″ input for your cords. With the flap down this Sony top looks sleek, colorful and smooth. The Power Button and ULT Button, located across the bottom of panel, are actually push in types. Then on the outer right side there is a pull out hook which holds your wireless microphone. Thoughtful for Sony to do this. By the way when I tried out the mic the sound wasn’t too bad but it’s really just for a fun karaoke time so no big deal. It was fun to press the Key Control and Echo links as it made your voice sound really different!
This speaker will literally shake your walls and I had it at just 35% volume! I turned my room lights off and WOW what a light show this speaker provides! Absolutely amazing with beautiful moving colors. You can turn the lights off if desired as there is a touch link to do so on top as well.
The sound is so rich and full and you can always add more or less bass with the controls and on the app. I had been looking at party speakers for some time but never opted to buy one. I am SO happy I waited because this speaker is PERFECT in every way! I love how it looks, works and can very highly recommend the purchase. You won’t be sorry and as far as I’m concerned there’s nothing on the market today that even comes close to comparing to this Sony ULT Tower 10! It’s not an inexpensive speaker but worth every cent. TOTALLY ROCKS!!

The Sony ULT TOWER 10 is absolutely massive, ridiculously loud and insanely punchy. Highs are crisp, mids don’t sound muddled and lows are gut rumbling, but not overblown.
There are 2 ULT sound modes. One is suited for lower rumbling bass, while the next mode seems to offer punchier bass. My favorite was the first ULT mode, but both sound great.
Multipoint Bluetooth allows for an easy connection to just about any phone or deice, while the music center allows for further customization of features and lighting.
A wireless microphone is included so that you can sing along with your tunes while enjoying the vivid light show that is built in.
You also have karaoke control right on the top of the speaker and can even use it as an amp for a guitar. There’s also a USB port for charging devices, while they sit nicely on the built-in device stand.
I sang along horribly to several songs and while my voice sounded clear via the wireless mic, the cats outside didn’t seem to appreciate my singing.
This speaker also comes with wheels, because you’ll need them to lug around its 50lb heft. What it doesn’t come with is a battery, but once you turn up the volume, you’ll realize that a battery wouldn’t power this unit for very long anyway.
Overall, the Sony ULT TOWER 10 is a speaker better suited for larger parties, outdoor spaces, and events such as weddings more so than a home or backyard. I believe one could opt for a much smaller, less expensive speaker for smaller gatherings.
With that said, the ULT TOWER 10 is an incredible sounding, huge speaker with a hefty price tag that will leave people wanting to justify purchasing it for their next karaoke party.

Sounds amazing and perfect my outdoor pool parties! Its huge compared to my MHC-V71.

Very rarely am I this impressed with a piece of tech, or in this case, a speaker, as I am with Sony’s new ULT Tower 10 Party Speaker. To say this thing is a beast would be underselling it. I learned how large this would be when it was delivered. If you think you know how big it is from the pictures, think again. You will be shocked. It’s 43.6 inches tall, 16.5 inches wide, 16.9 inches deep, and 63 pounds! It comes with some small wheels attached to the bottom of the unit and a handlebar on top for easy maneuvering, which I found extremely helpful. It’s more than we need daily, but on the other hand, it’s here for us to use for large gatherings, whether here at the house or elsewhere. We have a truck, so it’ll be easy for us to transport it. Anything less than an SUV would be tricky, in any case.
With something this large, you expect it to pack a punch in the sound department, and it sure does. One can use it at weddings, large parties, school dances, or company barbeques. The sound is rich, and the bass thumps. The vocals can be heard clearly as well. You will be satisfied with the sound. There’s a ULT button that you can press when playing “party music” that emphasizes deep and low-frequency bass. This is perfect for EDM, Techno, Hip-hop, or other bass-heavy music. The speaker is built explicitly for 360 sounds. It will fill a large area easily. Four tweeters are used on the front and back of the speaker. In addition to the 360 sounds, you get lights that light up all around the unit. You can choose a multi-color or a solid color, and it’ll dispense enough light to get any vibes going for a party or fun with the kids.
The Music Center App controls the lights, how you want them to be, and the music. The app found the speaker immediately and was very easy to use. If, for some reason, you don’t see this speaker to be enough (which would be insane), you can also hook up to 100 speakers using the app! Bluetooth 5.2 is on board, and it’s very stable so far. I love that it can stream LDAC!
In addition to the exceptional sound it produces, you can hook a guitar up to it or perform karaoke with the included wireless microphone. There are two microphone holders to sync up two mics for duets! What else do you need from a speaker? This thing is built like a tank; I assume it will last years. There is no reason or way to “upgrade” from this thing regarding sound and size. This will handle anything you throw at it and more.
I wish we owned a farm because I’m sure this could be heard throughout an entire property. It’s not necessarily made to listen to when you are next to the speaker, as with all large speakers, you want to give it some space to breathe. But if you do, you can lower the volume, which sounds just as lovely when you’re up close. I currently have ours in our garage to listen to when on the treadmill, rowing machine, or lifting some weights.
My brother is a professional wedding photographer, and I bet if he were to ask his clients about a speaker like this one, they’d want to rent or purchase it for any venue. It’s that powerful. It can handle PA, a DJ set-up, karaoke, or a full-fledged band with the correct hookups.
Yes, the price is $1200, which is a lot. But like I said, this speaker is an endgame speaker. You will not need anything more prominent, better sounding, or multifunctional. This has it all and should last for years to come. Sony hit the mark with this speaker, which aligns with their best products. Only some people will need or want a speaker this large, but those seeking something that can be used in small, medium, or large spaces do not need to look any further.

The Sony ULT Tower 10 is a Bluetooth party speaker that brings the club right into your house with party lights and massive bass that shakes you to the core.
Standing at close to four feet, one and a half feet wide and weighing over 65 pounds, it looks powerful and ready to party. Made of smooth hard plastic, it has a curvy smooth design with all the corners rounded. The big square woofer behind a metal grille, occupies more than half the tower and sits in between an upper and a lower midrange speaker. Four tweeters, two in the front, looking like small eyes, and two in the back sit atop the tower. Two built-in back wheels facilitate moving the speaker around despite its weight. It comes with one wireless microphone that you can place on either of the two microphone holders on the side of the speaker. An optical cable is also provided. From the top panel controls, you can play music, be a DJ, create a light show or you can do it from the comfort of a couch through the Music Center app on your phone or tablet. You can even add some vocals with echo effects for karaoke nights with the wireless microphone. If you want more vocals, you can plug in an additional microphone or make some beautiful noise by connecting a guitar. Additional connections at the back include a USB-A connection to charge your phone or other small gadgets, an optical in and a simple Audio in connection.
Set-up is quick and simple. First you download the Music Center App and then you pair the speaker to your phone or tablet via Bluetooth. The Music Center app lets you connect up to 100 speakers which is impressive for a home app. The app has a simple and well designed user interface and sits on top of your music apps to get your playlists and to connect the speaker in different ways. It lets you control the lighting effects and different sound modes and power off the speaker. With the Bluetooth on the standby option you can also turn it on remotely.
First weekend with it, I organized a get together at the house and it was the star of the night. From rock music to hip hop, reggae, salsa, some reggaeton and a little country everybody was left impressed and asked for specs and so many other questions. The bass is really powerful and stays solid at high volume and the speaker stays stable and doesn’t shake which is a credit to the good quality build. Two sound modes called ULT1 and ULT2 are offered. From my experience, ULT1 gives more emphasis to the deep bass while at the same time reducing the highs and mids, while ULT2 amplifies everything and shows the ULT Tower 10 true power. There is a custom equalizer option which I have become a big fan of. This speaker truly shines with its impressive balance between the highs, the mids and the lows. You play it as loud as you want and it never loses that enveloping sound. My biggest surprise is that it is much more than a party machine. It can be played at normal volume and the quality of the sound is well balanced with clear highs and midrange and tight solid bass that is never boomy and overwhelming. The light show is a 360-degree display of beautiful colors both at the base and at the top that respond to the beat of the music. I also have it connected to my TV with the optical cable and despite being placed next to the TV, on TV enhanced mode, the sound elevates movie and sports nights. For action movies, ULT1 sound mode is the way to go with the TV Booster option checked.
Every time I use it, the Sony ULT Tower 10 never ceases to amaze me with its endless power and outstanding sound. It will entertain any party with its dazzling light display and karaoke features. Its musical performance will impress many sophisticated audiophiles and all music lovers. It’s a high end speaker masquerading as a party speaker. Make sure you experience it at least once and you’ll be hooked.
